South East Water has streamlined the servicing and connection process for developers of medium density developments.
Developers no longer have to lodge several applications and instead can deal with a single point of contact.
Once an application has been received the process will include;
- Conducting a 'pre design meeting' with the consultant, developer or builder to ensure the requirements and responsibilities are clearly defined.
- In addition to the normal contribution fees, the 'Notice of Agreement' will also include all fees and charges associated with water meters and water assemblies.
- One Plumbing Application to cover all units within the development. This will be lodged as part of the acceptance of the 'Notice of Agreement'.
- Placing individual entries into South East Water systems for each unit so that once an 'Acceptance of Works Certificate' is issued, the 'PIC Numbers' (Plumbuing Industry Commission authorisation) can also be issued and water and sewerage connections can be booked without delay.
Where delays are experienced in the construction of the reticulated works, South East Water will consider issuing 'Test Priors' (consent to lay property sewerage drains prior to the reticulated being available for connectiong). 'Test Priors' will be considered on a case by case basis once the 'Notice of Agreement' has been accepted.
Given the density of these developments, it is sometimes difficult for water and sewerage assets to be installed within the general specification. For example sewer branches may be designed to cater only for fixture control of the proposed unit rather than full block control.
Type 2 branches can also be utilised (see below diagram). This will alleviate potential problems that may arise due to the location of deep branches in close proximiyt to dwellings. (Please note that Type 2A branches will not be permitted.)
