Usage Charges
This charge combines both your water and sewerage disposal charges over the period of the account. Water usage is measured via your metered water volume. Residential properties are charged under a block tariff structure, the more you use, the higher the price of water you pay per kilolitre.
Block charges are calculated based on your average daily usage.
Block 1 tariff is charged for usage between 0 and 440 litres per day
Block 2 tariff is charged for usage between 441 and 880 litres per day
Block 3 tariff is charged for usage above 880 litres per day.
The sewerage disposal charge is based on the total volume of water supplied to the property as measured by the water meter. An allowance is made for water that does not go to sewer but is used on gardens, washing cars, etc. The allowance is around 10% of all water going to gardens etc, in winter and increasing to around 48% in the summer.
Service Charges
Your service charges are fixed fees that are levied for accessing the water and sewerage systems.
Other Authorities' Charges
These charges may include Drainage and or Parks. The type of property will determine which if any of these charges you are billed for.
Drainage
Your charge for Drainage is a contribution to the cost of managing the regional (not local) drainage system and protecting and improving waterways. This contribution is levied and collected on behalf of Melbourne Water Corporation.
Parks
Each year South East Water collects a Parks Charge on behalf of the Minister for the Environment. The charge helps fund the acquisition, development and maintenance of Melbourne's major parks, gardens and waterways. Further information on Melbourne's parks and waterways and the Parks charge can be obtained from Parks Victoria on 131 963.
If you are liable for a Fire Service or a Trade Waste Agreement fee, it will appear under a heading "Other Charges".
Fire Service
The fire service charge relates to the provision and availability of a private fire service at the above property. A fire service is a value added service provided by water authorities to assist owners to protect properties in the case of fire. The service provides a dedicated water supply to fire hoses and sprinkler systems on customers' premises, which avoids those services being affected by other water uses on the premises at that time.
Trade Waste Agreement Fee
Trade waste charges contribute to the cost of transporting, monitoring, treating and administering liquid waste generated by commercial and industrial businesses.
