Teacher Professional Development

Water is a vital topic to educate students about as we enter our thirteenth year of drought in Melbourne.  As part of the Water - Learn it! Live it! program, South East Water runs regular teacher professional development sessions to help you learn and network.

The sessions come in two forms:

In term 2, we are showcasing two of our Water – Learn it! Live it! Schools. The days are primary and secondary focussed and we hope to inspire you with the fantastic environmental initiatives underway at both schools. These will be great sessions for teachers and principals alike!

 

The sessions are completely FREE! Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided. Please note: Teachers from Water- Live it! Learn it! Schools will receive CRT funding to the value of $235

Secondary focus

Designed for secondary teachers, this session at Bentleigh Secondary College school in action, one that has managed to reduce its water use by 85 per cent in 12 months!

 

Science and Sustainability Coordinator Bill Thomas will be our host and tour guide around the school, which features a new wetland filled by storm water which filters the water used to water the oval, tank to toilet systems, solar panels, and web-based real time water monitoring (HydroShare) used to detect leaks and as a teaching resource. 

 

There will also be sessions on applying for funding, curriculum development, building a wetland and water monitoring systems.

Primary focus

Ever wondered why everyone is talking about Bentleigh West Primary School? Come and see for yourself! This award winning school is a showcase of sustainability in action and embraced by the whole school community.

 

The determined, knowledgeable and proactive team of Leonie Brown and Sue MacLoud will be our hosts and tour guides. Some of the school’s outstanding features include a wetland area, flourishing vegetable garden, and a specialist environment and sustainability teaching space

 

In addition the day will also include sessions on applying for funding, curriculum development, water monitoring systems and much more.
