Top Ten Water Saving Tips
Are you ready for the "Use Less Water" challenge? Here are some tips to get you started:
- Have power showers! Every minute you take off your shower time saves up to two buckets of water!
- Swap your head! Well, not your own head, but your showerhead! Water-saving showerheads can use up to half as much water as your old showerhead.
- Taps off! Turn the taps off while brushing your teeth! Try using a glass of water to rinse instead - it could save you up to 4000 litres of water a year.
- Use the half flush! If you don't have a dual-flush toilet, place a bottle of water in your cistern to use less water with each flush.
- Save water, save plants! Save the water from the shower and water the plants with it or place it in the toilet cistern to flush.
- Bottle it! Bring a water bottle to school - the water from the bubbler will go in your bottle instead of down the drain.
- Stop leaks! Tell someone if you see if a leaking tap or toilet. Did you know that a tap that loses one drop a second loses a bathtub full of water in 2 days?
- Cool water! Fill a jug or container while you are waiting for the tap water to cool and keep it in the fridge.
- Only Full loads! Wait until you have a full load in the dishwasher or washing machine before using it.
- Wash wisely! Fill the sink half full when you wash the dishes by hand.
