The price of water and sewerage services will increase from 1 July 2011.
This increase is part of our four year pricing plan that was approved in 2009 by the Essential Services Commission. This plan will help ensure Melbourne has enough water in the future.
Essential investments have been made in our local water and sewerage infrastructure to meet the needs of Melbourne’s growing population.
The price increase also helps fund major infrastructure projects such as upgrades to the Eastern Treatment Plant and the construction of the desalination plant.
What is the Parks Charge?
We collect this charge on behalf of the Department of Sustainability and Environment. It is levied once a year and is used to support parks and facilities in Melbourne, including the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Shrine of Remembrance. As it is only collected once per year, this charge will not appear on your next bill. Visit www.parkweb.vic.gov.au for more information.
What is the Waterways and Drainage Charge?
We collect this charge on behalf of Melbourne Water. It helps protect and improve the health of our rivers and creeks. It also assists with drainage management, flood protection and warning systems. Visit www.melbournewater.com.au for more information.
I’m having problems paying my account – can you help?
Our South East Water Assist program is designed for customers who are experiencing financial difficulties. Please call 131 851 for more information.
When will the new charges apply from?
New prices will be reflected in your first quarterly account after 1 July this year. Water usage and sewage disposal charges will be charged on a pro rata basis at the old rate until 30 June 2011 and at the new rate after 1 July 2011.
Did you know we manage a total of over 17,000 kilometres of water and sewerage pipes?
That’s the distance from Melbourne to Dublin! In 2011-12, we will make a substantial investment in our network of pipes and treatment plants.
