Lang Lang and Koo Wee Rup sewage treatment plants are two of South East Water’s oldest treatment plants. Since construction in 1965 and 1978 respectively, the plants have treated wastewater from the townships, before using the treated wastewater to irrigate tree plantations on South East Water owned land.

Both sewage treatment plants are now nearing capacity. There is little room to treat and manage an increase in sewage flow using current lagoon based technology, which will result from anticipated population growth.

Throughout 2011, South East Water is working closely with key stakeholders to develop a revised approach to long-term sewage management for Lang Lang and Koo Wee Rup townships.

Our local stakeholder reference group

To help us develop our revised approach to future sewerage management, we have established a stakeholder reference group. The group includes representatives from Cardinia Shire, the local indigenous community, local township committees, government agencies, local businesses and agricultural groups.

Our stakeholder reference group meets on a regular basis to provide ongoing feedback to South East Water’s project team.

Get involved

You are welcome to attend a stakeholder reference group meeting to observe the process and listen to the discussion. To register your attendance at one of these meetings please contact South East Water’s Community Engagement Coordinator, Sandra Glass (details below).

Throughout 2011, a range of other opportunities will also be available for you to hear about the project. All upcoming opportunities will be listed on our website.
