International award for Flinders Shoreham project
South East Water and its ‘us’ – Utility Services Alliance has received international recognition for its Flinders and Shoreham Pressure Sewerage Project. The Project was presented with the International Water Association’s Project Innovation Award in the small projects category at the Asia Pacific Regional awards, held in Singapore this week.
The $33 million Project provided the opportunity for over 1,000 local households in the townships of Flinders and Shoreham to connect their properties to the sewerage system and decommission their aging septic tanks.

Frankston has been recognised for their commitment to recycled water in this year’s Victorian Keep Australia Beautiful awards.

Fire Sprinklers save water
Simple changes made to fire sprinkler systems in Melbourne’s south east will save enough water to fill eight Olympic swimming pools this year.
Since June 2009, South East Water’s Fire Sprinkler Program has worked with 22 buildings to make changes to their fire services achieving a total saving of 22.3 million litres each year. This is an average saving of 60 per cent per property.

Simple changes made to fire sprinkler systems in Melbourne’s south east will save enough water to fill eight Olympic swimming pools this year.
Since June 2009, South East Water’s Fire Sprinkler Program has worked with 22 buildings to make changes to their fire services achieving a total saving of 22.3 million litres each year. This is an average saving of 60 per cent per property.

Autumn rainfall boosts south-east
Strong autumn rain has provided a great boost to gardens and rainwater tanks in Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs, according to South East Water Managing Director Shaun Cox.
“Strong autumn rainfall is helping fill tanks across the south-east which will help prepare avid gardeners for the hotter summer months,” Mr Cox said.
Most suburbs in Melbourne’s south-east have received up to 268mm of autumn rain – almost a 50 per cent increase on last autumn, according to figures released by Melbourne Water last week. The highest rainfall across Melbourne was recorded in Officer.

Berwick Primary joins local water-savers
Berwick Primary is the latest school in the City of Casey to achieve Water – Learn it! Live it! (Water LiLi) accreditation. "Water LiLi provides schools with the opportunity to be recognised for their commitment to water conservation,” South East Water’s Education Officer Karen Borton said.
“To achieve bronze accreditation students at Berwick Primary have been monitoring the school’s water consumption and celebrated World Water Day in March this year.”

Water-wise focus for World Environment Day
Schools in Melbourne’s south east are marking World Environment Day on Saturday 5 June by hosting showerhead exchanges throughout the week.
At Pakenham Springs Primary the student environment group has been focusing on saving water around the school and is now running a showerhead exchange to help spread the water-saving message.

Lower Dandenong Road water main
On Wednesday 2nd June South East Water crews attended a burst water main on Lower Dandenong Road near Howard Road in Braeside. The burst resulted in significant water flowing on the road, which affected inbound traffic. There was some surface damage to a section of the road, but the road surface has now been reinstated. South East Water has no concerns about road structure.
